Guided tour of our Stanmer sites, presentation, AGM and festive celebrations

The details below are for the event that ran in December 2007.
You can also see AGM reports

Everyone is welcome to come along for all or any part of the day, bring your friends and family. It will be a chance to meet members of the Brighton Permaculture Trust team, see and hear what we have been doing over the past year, and to find out how you can get involved … or even roll up your sleeves and muck in!

There is no need to book for this event, just come along on the day. However the security gates will be locked so if you are not familiar with how to get to the Earthship via the woods we would suggest that you join us from the tour onwards.

12.30: Guided tour of gardens and orchards at Stanmer

We will meet promptly at 12.30 in front of Home Farm House next to Stanmer Church, in the centre of Stanmer Park. Click here for directions to our meeting point. We’ll walk for about a mile visiting Brighton Permaculture Trust’s three new sites at Stanmer:
The Home Farm Orchard - an old one-acre orchard of 68 fruit trees, mostly apples
The Old Orchard - an even older orchard that has been managed by the Stanmer Orchard Group for eight years
Plot at Stanmer Organics – a beautiful one-acre site with our fruit tree nursery and many establishing trees planted by Re-Evolution, who previously managed the site.

The tour will end at the Earthship in time for lunch.

1.30: Delicious seasonal local food in Earthship Brighton

A light meal prepared by Brighton Permaculture Trust members. Donations towards costs will be collected. Please feel free to bring along more to share. There will also be a chance to have a look round the building.

2.30: Presentation: What we did last year + future plans

This will outline the many successful courses, projects and events Brighton Permaculture Trust has run over the past year and look at plans for the coming year. Also you can find out how you can get involved!

3.30: Annual General Meeting

The business part of the day: appointment of trustees; accepting accounts; etc. This will be brief. More details, including how to become involved and on trusteeship are available on request, please contact us.

4.30: Seasonal celebrations

A chance to chat, enjoy Stanmer and have a drink or two. If the weather is good we will probably adjourn to a fireside on one of our sites. Please bring drinks and snacks to share.

Travel

Please travel by public transport if you can. Location map.
Bus: Bus 78 goes all the way to Stanmer Church; this is an hourly service with the last return bus at 4.30. Bus 25 is more frequent and goes past the entrance of Stanmer Park, a pleasant half-mile walk through the park to the Church. Bus details.
Train: Falmer station is three quarters of a mile away, again a pleasant walk through the park. Journey planner.
Cycle: A cycle path runs between Brighton and Lewes past the entrance to the park. Cycle map pdf (4.5Mb).

IN THE MORNING: Practical restoration work in the Home Farm Orchard

This Orchard is located behind Home Farm House, next to Stanmer Church in the centre of Stanmer Park. Access the Orchard by going round the back of the house through the garden via the right hand side. Unless the weather is very bad we will be working there 10am – noon, please feel free to join us.

We will be clearing encroaching brambles to make the trees more accessible for picking and pruning. Please wear tough clothes, gloves and boots. Please bring anything that will be suitable for clearing brambles, such as secateurs, sheers, machetes, etc.

Please note that for insurance reasons children cannot be involved in the activities, though they are welcome if supervised.
